CRANE DESIGN ENGINEER

The Crane Design Engineer will function as part of the design and development team with focus on system or component performance and integration. This directs the conceptual design, technical project planning, detail design, and development testing.
Design
Prepare conceptual designs with supporting calculations and material data
Provide engineering calculations to support detailed design projects
Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects
Provide support in checking details, assemblies and BOMs for assigned projects
Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
Maintain thorough documentation for all aspects of assigned projects

Project Planning
Manage assigned work orders from project start to completion
Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications
Provide preliminary engineering calculations, specifications, sketches and layouts as required by sales to estimate a machine to meet customer inquiries
Review engineering drawings, analyze design and retrieve information to complete drawing, layout or design
Ensure all drawings are checked for design and dimensional correctness prior to release for production

Customer Relations
Aid in the resolution of external customer problems of a technical nature
Respond to shop questions/problems encountered during fabrication and assembly of machines
Form and maintain a work order file

Qualifications Necessary:

Post secondary degree/diploma in Mechanical Engineering
P. Eng/CET or working towards designation
3 5 years of crane design experience in a heavy equipment manufacturing environment
Proven hands-on experience troubleshooting and problem solving during manufacturing of design
Knowledge of hydraulic system design an asset
Ability to motivate others to task completion
Requires the ability to be creative and develop new product requirements
Working experience with 3D software, ideally Inventor
